Hi there
We know sustained performance is a quality-of-learning game. When we are open to hear how others do what they do and the meaning behind what they do we learn, deeply. We will be making better decisions because we have fewer blind spots and assumptions!
Sometimes, as busy as leaders are the frame is not learning but problem solving. If your frame is ‘problem solve’, you will find you 'contract'. You only spot what may relate to the problem in front of you, or the one you are anticipating. This is why Einstein said he solved as many problems in the shower as he did in the lab! Relax the focus, expand the frame.
A wider frame is hidden to us when we are in problem-solve mode. When we are in learning mode, inquiry mode, you will notice the world opens up, the situation in front of us opens up to reveal possibilities. The best leaders make better decisions more often and a helpful frame is moving from indulge to enlarge.
Enlarge / Indulge
Richard Rohr said ‘the world is not here to indulge you, it is here to enlarge you’. When I look around I see some people very focused on an indulgent frame. The ‘what’s in it for me’ is not leadership. The best leaders help others shine, they are here to serve and they enlarge the lives of others.
They enlarge the conviction in their team to create a 4th dimension of performance. But, when we have people around us who have an ‘indulge me’ frame (e.g. meet my needs, make me feel better, give me security, solve my problems) it can impact our own perspective and take us into conflict resolution. That is ‘problem solving’ with a different name. And not the leadership I see in sustained high performance.
Conflict can get our attention but the best leaders step past this ‘indulging’ and move into ‘enlarging’: the situation; themselves; their team; and their family/friends at home (better high performance is home and work!).
I want to contribute to better high performance that enriches and enlarges people, to wiser leadership. And my work and writing is pointed here, and maybe partly why you hit ‘subscribe’. I look forward to this 2024 journey with you.
What I’m offering in 2024
At the heart of Leadership is perspective. At the heart of coaching is reflection. At the heart of performance is communication.
When the three are brought together we have the ecosystem of sustained high performance. Many have lost site of their ‘main things’ through clutter, busy-ness, and many successful ideas of what succeeded in the past but are no longer fit for purpose. I help leaders lead, and systems accelerate.
Performance Leadership: a three or six month one on one mentoring programme to unlock and unblock you, your team and the system you are in.
Breakthrough: a ‘sticks on fire’ cohort masterclass of leaders and experts who are challenged to create and influence sustained performance in their world. Together we inspire and explore our own context, challenges and accelerate change and influence to enlarge the people we care about most.
Performance System Acceleration: is a system audit and insights discovery for the performance system you are currently in. This is a deep detailed discovery of all aspects of your performance system to identify the blind spots, and resistance that is hiding performance opportunities in your world. I help you subtract, unlock and unblock.
Repeat Medalism: A set of workshops and masterclasses to support and address the challenge you are facing or the inspiration you need to create.
The most popular sessions are:
The Simplify System;
From Expert to Mastering the real game;
Blindspots blocking sustained high performance;
Anti-fragility in action;
And I always love to create a bespoke session to address your main thing!
